Once again it’s time for a Music Monday. This week it’s Dan Mangan’s “Et Les Mots Croisés”. Following Aric’s example, I set out to make crap. Not that the song is crap, but that I knew going into it that my level of skill and preparation was not going to create anything I would be happy to call music.
What I did do was spend a bit more time on the setup of the recording and the creation of the video itself. I pulled out my (borrowed) Shure SM57, my consumer level M-Audio recording interface, and recorded the audio separate. This allowed me to do a little tweaking of the audio. I don’t really know what I’m doing with it, but doing some light compression and equalization made it sound a bit better (or at least better than audio from an iPhone).
One thing this process has taught (or reminded) me is that I need vocal training, or to simply practice singing more. Perhaps I also need to figure out what my vocal range is, so I can pick songs that are more appropriate to my voice, or change the key to fit.
So anyway, here it is…
