I’ve been trying to spend more time with songwriting and this is a fairly decent work-in-progress, I think, so I figured I’d share. *I’m* beginning to like this one, anyway. That said, I haven’t done this in a while; this is the first song I’ve written without a contest prompting me to do so. I feel like I still need to find my voice, or perhaps find a vocal trainer. Maybe both. I think I might actually be starting to learn a little something about the craft, though.
Anyway, I need to do more things like this. I’m hoping to get a few decent songs near their end stages and put them together into something worthy of my 40×40 list. Recording is a whole different beast than songwriting. We’ll see how that plays out.
Enough rambling; here is some approximation of the lyrics:
It’s a fine time
open up a bottle of wine
come lay by my side and clear your mind
hole up in my head
to cast away the day’s dread
sprawl out, arms across the bed
and claim my dues
and you, you’re staring straight up at the ceiling
fan your hands out with that feeling you can’t lose
keep searching for your reasons
but for all that we know
there’s no where to go
you keep searching for your reasons
but for all that you know
there’s just no where to go
It’s a fine time
open up a bottle of wine
come lay by my side and clear your mind
It’s a fine time
to pour yourself that glass of wine
laying at your side, I don’t feel so tired
don’t be so tense
just because I don’t get your references
these pointers don’t make sense
I need more clues
oh…
how am I supposed to write what I know
when it all comes out in code?
you keep searching for your reasons
but for all that you know
there’s no where to go
and I’ll keep searching for my reasons
though for all that I know
it still all comes out in code
It’s a fine time
open up a bottle of wine
come lay by my side and clear your mind
It’s a fine time
to pour yourself that glass of wine
laying at your side I don’t feel so tied
you always stop to think
I’ve never had so much to drink
I couldn’t tie my shoes in muddy water
you’re kneeling down to save a falter
clap your hands to say your prayer
without the mirror, you’re still the fairest
of us all at the ball
it’s a fine time
to grab another bottle of wine
…
it’s fine time
